Meet the Artists (1st-3rd)

Children will practice the skills of observing, thinking, and creating. By putting themselves in the mind of an artist, students begin to learn more about themselves, and how to bring the beauty and knowledge of past artists into their own work. The hope of this class is to gain a great appreciation for diversity amongst different types of artist expression, and that there is in fact, an artist in all of us. Artists included in the course would include but are not limited to, Alexander Calder (originator of mobile), Mary Cassatt (Impressionism), Henri Mattise (collage), Henry Moore (pos-neg space), Georgia O’Keeffe (Watercolor/flowers). There will be more artists such as Mondrian, Pollack, and Picasso, the class will be open to change due to children’s ability and grasp of the technique, most importantly the children will learn different mediums and many different artistic expressions.
Supply cost: $20
Supply list: Glue stick, Elmers glue, scissors, pencils, art smock or large t-shirt
