Sewing (3rd-adult)

For this initial half-year, this will be an "Intro to Sewing" class. All skill levels are welcome, but my goal for this class will be for me to get to know you and your skills so that I can place you into the appropriate class for next year. I hope to complete a few small projects (TBD), but it will mostly be learning/practicing the basics. We will practice the hand-sewing stitches and techniques that I believe will be most useful, really learn about the care and use of our machine (threading, adjusting, cleaning, etc.), and practice basic machine stitches...a lot. We'll drill with our machines to learn how to sew straight lines and keep to a specific seam allowance. We will also learn about fabrics, patterns, and other sewing tools, and may take a field trip to a fabric store if there is enough interest. I know we will have fun, and even if you have some experience, I think you will definitely benefit from and learn in this class, so I hope you will join me!
Supply cost: $20
Supplies needed: Sewing Machine and Basic Sewing Kit Required. All students must bring their own sewing machine and basic sewing kit each week, which includes a pair of fabric scissors, a small pair of scissors or snips, straight pins / wonderclips, hand-sewing needles, a seam ripper, and a measuring tape. I will have some fabrics available for small projects, but students may be required to shop for and purchase fabric depending on projects. Materials fees will cover fabric/threads for practicing, photocopying handouts and patterns, and any other hardware/supplies that might be needed.
Prerequisites: Must be able to pay attention and listen to instructions, as we will be working with sharp objects and the sewing machines, so safety is important!
