Alyssa Kierstead(She/Her)
I am a mother of three girls, ages 7, 5, and 3 with another little girl due any day. Our homeschool style is a mixture of academic learning that is often cancelled in the face of fair weather, reading, conversation, and room to explore each of our own passions and interests. We garden, we forage, we grow, garble, and blend herbal teas for enjoyable sipping and sick-day cures, we have an ever-expanding library that threatens to topple any day, we dance and sing, enjoy family game night and are a generally loud and rambunctious family bunch. Thank goodness our neighbors aren’t too close by!
I graduated from Kutztown University with degrees in Philosophy and Journalism and a few years later, attended school in Washington, DC for a Masters in Ethics, Peace and Global Affairs, focusing on environmental justice and generally rabble-rousing as much as possible. It was in this space that I met my husband, Sam, and we fell quickly out of politics and into love, spending the next few years growing babies and moving/RVing around the country until we finally settled on our homestead in PA.
I am so excited to be a part of the Rising Roots teaching team this year! I hope I can bring something fresh to our students and that I can learn from them in our play and discussions!
